Giants of Nova Scotia
Welcome!
Nova Scotia is home to some incredible trees. 400 hundred years of forestry has had an impact, but it manages to have standouts.
One is the Eastern Hemlock which can live for over 400 years making it the oldest in our forests.
In the summer of 2017, a non-native bug called the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) was first discovered in South Western Nova Scotia. HWA feeds exclusively on hemlock trees, has no natural controls and is extremely prolific.
Bad news for Hemlocks and it looks like we're in for a battle.
